Word Forge is a five-letter word puzzle with six attempts, which the game calls heats. Type a five-letter word and submit it, and each letter is marked to tell you how close you are. Solve the word in as few heats as you can; the fewer you need, the higher your score.
- Green means the right letter in the right spot, amber means the letter is in the word elsewhere, grey means it is absent.
- A solve scores 900 points on the first heat and 90 fewer for every extra heat.
- Guesses must be words from the game's list; a rejected word does not use up a heat.
- Standard, Hard and Expert modes change the rules for you, not the scoring.
Type on your keyboard, or tap the on-screen letter keys, then press Enter or the submit key. The on-screen keyboard colors letters you have already tried. Before your first guess, choose a mode, or start the Daily puzzle, which gives everyone the same word for the day.
| Mark | Meaning | What to do next |
|---|---|---|
| Green (✓) | Right letter, right spot | Keep it there |
| Amber (•) | In the word, but not in this spot | Use it again in a different spot |
| Grey (×) | Not in the word | Avoid it |
Repeated letters follow a precise rule. If you guess a word with two of the same letter and the answer has only one, only one of your copies is marked green or amber; the other is grey. Green copies are counted first.

Every heat you save is worth 90 points, and solving at all is worth a great deal: even a sixth-heat solve scores more than twenty times an unsolved puzzle. That shapes the strategy: early heats gather information, middle heats narrow it down, and the last heat goes to the answer you are most confident in.
- Standard: six attempts and full clues.
- Hard: every new guess must keep greens in place, include every revealed letter, and not repeat an amber letter in the spot where it was marked.
- Expert: the on-screen keyboard no longer shows clue colors, so you track tried letters yourself.
The scoring is the same in every mode, so modes are a personal challenge. Hard mode in particular can lead you into traps where several words fit the greens and you must try them one by one.
- Open with a word that uses several common letters and no repeats.
- Place every green and note where ambers cannot go.
- If many candidates remain, test new letters rather than guessing one candidate.
- When only one or two words fit, guess them directly.
- Watch for double letters; the answer may contain one even when your guesses did not.
- Reusing grey letters out of habit.
- Putting an amber letter back into the spot where it was already marked.
- Forgetting that the answer can contain repeated letters.
- Guessing a near-miss candidate when a letter-testing word would narrow things faster.
Your best score appears on the leaderboards, and the game also keeps simple stats on your device: games played, wins, current streak and best streak. Word Forge's achievements step from finishing a puzzle to quick solves to very quick ones. For a different kind of rhythm, read the Tempo Tap guide.
What happens if I enter a word that is not in the list?
The guess is rejected and you keep the heat; nothing is lost.
Do modes change the score?
No. Standard, Hard and Expert change the rules for guessing, not the scoring.
What is the Daily puzzle?
A word chosen for the date, so everyone plays the same puzzle that day.
What if I do not solve it?
Using all six heats without the word still finishes the run and scores 20.
